Seoul currently has no free stadium that can hold 50,000 people. Into that gap, Goyang City cut its venue fee from 10% of ticket sales to 6%, and three overseas pop stadium shows landed at this one ground within ten days of October.
.The Weeknd plays the main stadium of Goyang Sports Complex at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 8. It is the final Asian leg of his world stadium tour, After Hours til Dawn, and his first Korean show in eight years, since 2018. General sales opened on May 21, and both nights sold out in 35 minutes. Peak concurrent users: 1.5 million.
.Five days earlier, on October 2, the same stadium had Post Malone booked. On August 27 the show was postponed, and tickets were refunded in full with no fees. Three days after The Weeknd, on Sunday, October 11, Charlie Puth arrives with his Whatever's Clever! World Tour. In ten days, three overseas stadium shows had piled into a single ground in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, not Seoul.

.Opened in September 2003. It has 40,907 fixed seats, and when the grass inside the running track is covered and turned into a standing area, more than 50,000 people fit. The roof is a canopy over part of the stands, so the field itself sits under open sky. No professional football club calls this stadium home. With no owner guarding the grass, concert dates never have to fight a football fixture list.

.On show day the gates open at 4:30 p.m., and the Japanese hip-hop duo Creepy Nuts takes the stage first at 6:45. Fans get off at Daehwa Station on subway Line 3, where the exits split by ticket type: exits 3 and 4 for standing, exit 2 for reserved seats. Umbrellas are banned, so on a rainy forecast everyone packs a poncho, and water is limited to one unopened 500ml bottle. Entry is 19 and over, with ID checked at the gate. By the time The Weeknd walks on, the sun has set and the infield glows with phone screens.

.People travel an hour from Seoul Station to reach this stadium because there is nowhere to go inside Seoul. Jamsil Olympic Stadium, which holds 50,000, has been shut for renovation since late 2023, with work reportedly due to finish at the end of this year. Seoul World Cup Stadium, to protect its turf, stopped selling field-level seats for concerts from 2025.

.Gocheok Sky Dome, the roofed option, has 16,744 seats, and from April to October baseball comes first. So when a 50,000-capacity stadium tour comes to Korea in autumn, promoters effectively have one stadium to choose from. Monthly JoongAng reported that this has put Goyang City in the position of choosing the artists.

.The side with the choice lowered its price instead of raising it. Industry practice is for a venue to take around 10% of ticket sales as its fee; Goyang City cut that to 6%. It also set up a single desk that brings the district office, police, fire and transport officials together so permits and safety talks get settled in one go. In April 2025, Coldplay played here six times and drew 320,000 people.
.Tickets for The Weeknd start at KRW 55,000 for obstructed-view seats. Standing is KRW 189,000, and reserved seats run from KRW 145,000 to KRW 289,000. Above those sit an early-entry standing package at KRW 469,000 and the top VIP package at KRW 859,000, with 10% off for the presenting card company's cardholders. Across the whole tour, 153 shows sold 7.5 million tickets and passed USD 1 billion in gross. That works out to about USD 133 a ticket.

.A rough count of the two nights. If 100,000 people, 50,000 a night, paid an average of KRW 200,000, ticket sales come to around KRW 20 billion. At the customary 10%, Goyang City's share would be KRW 2 billion; at 6% it is KRW 1.2 billion. On The Weeknd's two nights alone, Goyang chose to take KRW 800 million less (all estimates).
.Taking less brought more bookings. From late 2024 through 2025, 850,000 people saw shows at this stadium, and performance revenue reached KRW 12.5 billion. This year the city expects about KRW 9.9 billion from 13 shows. BTS drew 132,000 people over three nights in April, and the city said searches for lodging in Goyang rose about eightfold after the tour was announced.

.Fans spend an hour on a weekday evening getting to the northern edge of Gyeonggi because this tour may never come back to Korea. This Asian leg is the last of After Hours til Dawn, which ends in Kuala Lumpur on November 4. On the tour schedule, the Goyang shows are listed as Seoul between Tokyo, Jakarta, Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong, and nobody has promised a next time. What the ticket price carries is less the seat than the fact that this is the last one.
.Risk comes in with the bookings. The Post Malone show was postponed a little over a month out without any reason given, and his stadium dates in Australia and New Zealand that month were rescheduled too. At a stadium expecting KRW 9.9 billion from 13 shows a year, one show is roughly 7% of annual performance revenue. What penalty the rental contract sets for a date left empty has not been disclosed.

.In 2024, Singapore locked up Taylor Swift's Southeast Asia shows as six nights at the National Stadium. Government money went in, no other country in the region got a date, and more than 300,000 fans flowed into the city. Goyang's version is smaller. A rate cut instead of a grant, one city instead of a nation.

.Goyang's position may not last. Jamsil Olympic Stadium is coming back, and in the first half of 2027 Seoul Arena opens with a 28,000-capacity main hall and a 7,000-capacity mid-size hall. In the meantime, Goyang City plans to spend about KRW 15 billion replacing old seats and restrooms, phased over several years without stopping concerts. The aim is to keep the customers Seoul's closures sent its way until Seoul opens its doors again.
.In an autumn when Seoul has no free stadium, Goyang City cut its venue fee to 6% of ticket sales, landed 100,000 seats over two weekday nights from The Weeknd, and earns roughly KRW 1.2 billion from them (estimate). A council can lower a rate in one vote, but the first thing another city would run into when trying the same is beds. Reports kept coming that Goyang lodging sold out early in concert weeks, and hotels, unlike venue fees, cannot be added in a single year.
